What to do if you feel pain in a retainer?
A retainer can feel snug, but persistent pain or a sudden change in fit deserves attention.
Check the fit
Do not force a retainer that no longer seats correctly. Inspect it for cracks, distortion or rough edges and contact the clinic for advice.
Ease mild discomfort
Short-term tenderness can happen after missed wear. Follow your orthodontist’s instructions and avoid adjusting the appliance yourself.
When to call us
Arrange a review if pain is sharp, your gums are injured, the retainer is damaged or it will not fit fully.
